The full Fire, Shelter, and Navigation courses are open to anyone 15 years and older.
The Confident Kids one day course is for anyone 8-14 years. Each child who is registered requires a responsible adult to be present for the duration of the course. Please note, this course includes training on proper knife handling and use as well as hands on practice making fire.
Where are the courses Located?
The training for all courses hosted by Hoagy’s Outdoor are held on a treed property in the R.M. of Leask, Saskatchewan. It is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Saskatoon, North Battleford, Prince Albert, and Big River. Once your registration and payment is completed a confirmation will be sent with directions.
What skill level do i need to take a course?
These courses are designed with the beginner in mind – no experience needed. However, anyone can take a class for additional skills building and practice.
What are your class sizes?
The Fire, Shelter, and Navigation courses have a limit of 8 people. Please contact us if you would like to have a class that exceeds this or if you are unsure about space available in a specific course. The small class size provides the opportunity for direct instruction and answering all questions you may have while you are in the field.
For the Confident Kids class we have the same limit of 8 kids, however, each child that attends must have a parent/guardian attending with them.
What about food and washrooms?
Please pack appropriately for lunch and snacks you may need through the day as you would heading out on any outdoor adventure. Small cooking fires will be available. Bring a good water bottle – extra drinking water will be provided. (Food suggestions: Beef jerky, grilled cheese in tin foil wrap, dried fruits, nuts, cup of soup – bring container and spoon, granola/energy bars, raw veggies)
There will be a private area set up to use the washroom. It will be similar to what you may use when out on your own in the back country. There will be a wash station set up.
